Domino's Pizza - My Kids' Favorite Pizza, They Have Bad Taste

3.0/5 stars Review Philosophy

Domino's Pizza Takeaway. My kids' favorite pizza. I give the country's biggest slinger of pizza a 4 / 10. It's not good pizza, but it's pizza, so I'll eat it if someone else buys it. I've found that the Brooklyn-style pizza is my "favorite." The underlying problem is the overly sweet sauce and dough.

Pro tip: Make sure to use the app for the coupons. I normally use the 20% off coupon, but depending on your order, you might find a better deal. Without the coupon, Domino's isn't super cheap. In my opinion, Costco is a better deal in terms of both price and quality. A 14" pizza that weighs roughly 35 oz only costs $10.39 after the coupon. $.30/oz is incredibly cheap for non-Costco pizza.

Use the app for ordering and tracking. They are so close that I always pick it up.

Domino's Pizza Experience Summary

I am reviewing Domino's Pizza because everyone has had it. Therefore, you can use it to calibrate your taste to my other pizza reviews.

The best I can possibly make a Domino's Pizza is a 4 / 10. If you go Brooklyn-style thin crust with pepperoni, you can push a 4. Without pepperoni, maybe a 3.5. And their standard hand-tossed is a 3.

Domino's Pizza front

For reference, I consider Costco's default cheese pizza a 5 / 10 as my mid-line comparison.

The key to ordering at Domino's is to use a coupon via the app. That's how I can justify ordering it for my kids, as it is their favorite pizza. They normally have a 20% off coupon. You can sometimes do even better depending on your order. I wanted to get two pizzas for this review, so the 2 medium combo came out slightly better. We got $5.65 off a $23 order is roughly 24%.

Domino's Pizza pepperoni

Using my standard order, a 14" pizza that weighs roughly 35 oz only costs $10.39 after the coupon. $.30/oz is incredibly cheap for non-Costco pizza.

The Domino's app is top-notch. You never have to really interact with a human to order, track, and pick up the pizza. It's always ready when it says it is.

You do have to give it to Domino's in that regard. They have the standardization of pizza down to a science.

The Food At Domino's Pizza

Oiy.

I'll eat Domino's because it's pizza, and even bad pizza is still pizza. I've had to order it enough for kids' parties and my kids generally that I can at least hack it a bit.

Domino's Pizza diameter

The best I can push Domino's pizza to after years of research on the taste side of things is a 4 / 10. I get the Brooklyn-style pizza with pepperoni. I find this minimizes the worst parts of the pizza, the cheese, and sauce, while allowing the almost decent crust to deliver some flavor relief.

It's never good when the cheese and sauce are the worst parts of the pizza.

Domino's Pizza weight

The sauce is overly sweet. Made for a general audience that wants to dip it in ranch or something, Domino's isn't catering to grown-up taste buds.

The cheese has no flavor, is a bit too thick, and is overly chewy.

The undercarriage holds the pizza together without too much flop on the Brooklyn.

Domino's Pizza box

And the best bite comes in the form of the crust at the end. It has a crunch to it, and whatever garlic salt they add has some flavor.

If you want to truly enjoy something at Domino's, grab the cinnamon twists. They roll the dough in cinnamon and sugar, and they taste great, although you can feel your arteries get clogged mid-bite.

Domino's Pizza Atmosphere And Miscellaneous

I interact with Domino's purely through the app. The app does everything for you, from ordering to coupons to tracking.

Domino's Pizza kitchen

Domino's has actually been at the forefront of online ordering. They let you customize almost every pizza part in an easy-to-understand flow. You can customize everything from the cheese to the sauce to the toppings to what half of the pizza gets toppings.

They then set you up with an order tracker that has been accurate for me over the dozen or so times I've used it.

Lastly, the app is the source for the 20% off coupon or whatever other deal you want to apply. That's the key to keeping the costs down.

Domino's Pizza parking

The two Domino's I've been in over the past couple of years to pick up the pizza have been clean and the service staff friendly. You just say your name, and you get your pizza.

Parking At Domino's Pizza

Domino's typically has its own lot. Ours is part of a large strip mall with ample parking.
