Thai Mama - Totally Tasty Thai Food

nan/5 stars Review Philosophy

Thai Mama Takeaway. Thai Mama was quite good. I'd give it a 7.5 / 10 overall. It's solidly above restaurant-quality Thai food, but nothing to blow you away. A good neighborhood joint for Curry and Pad Thai.

If you live within like a five-minute drive, this is the kind of place you could get on a Friday night and be happy with it. I've had better Thai food in my life, so it's not going to break any records there, but it fit the bill.

Online ordering made it easy. Food was ready faster than expected from their website. Parking is easy in a big strip mall parking lot.

Thai Mama Experience Summary

Of all the really, really quality Asian food in St. Louis, good Thai food has been the hardest to find.

Continuing our search, the family and I had Thai Mama last night based on a rec from a friend.

Located in Maryland Heights, it's a little off the beaten path, but Maryland Heights has the highest percentage of Asian population in the state. So it's usually worth the trip out to taste something new.

Thai Mama order

We got the staples in Pad Thai and Pad See Eww, but I went nuts and also got Red Curry Chicken.

Overall, I gave it a 7.5 / 10, the Pad Thai and Red Curry were very good, but the Pad See Eww wasn't great. It's above average restaurant-quality Thai food, but not worth the fifteen minute drive most nights.

We ordered online. It was ready when we went to pick up. The online timer said 35 minutes, but it was ready in 10, which is more standard for most Asian restaurants. So keep that in mind; it'll probably be ready before the timer gets out of order online.

his was on a Saturday night, right at 6 o'clock. Everything was in order as we ordered it, so no problems there.

The Food At Thai Mama

The two standout dishes were the Pad Thai and my Red Curry. I got a two on the spicy scale for the Red Curry, and it was technically spicy, but not very spicy. I would go for three or four next time.

I don't know where their spicy stuff jumps up, but it wasn't very spicy. For reference, something like a Buldak ramen or a Shin Ramen would have been considerably more spicy than this was. It had the hint of spice, but it didn't overwhelm you at all.

Thai Mama pad thai

My wife really enjoyed the Pad Thai. We haven't really found great Pad Thai around here. The closest thing we've had is at Blue Elephant.

For all of the really quality Asian food, Thai food has been lacking. Thai Mama had the best she's had..

We have been using Pad Thai and Pad See Eww for thai food benchmarks for years. We used to get those in California all the time at places that were really, really good. So they typically acts as a guage.

These were, again, good, but not great. Restaurant quality, but nothing to bring your parents to when they come visit.

Thai Mama pad see eww

Pad See Ew in particular wasn't very good. That was in the low 6 / 10. It just didn't have the right consistency with the noodles, and it lacked sufficient vegetables and sauce. Just kind of off across the board.

My son, who's five, really liked the Pad Thai. He was able to eat all of it that we gave him, so that's a good sign. It's always nice when you have a dish they'll eat when you go to get better quality food for grownups.

You know, besides the white rice.

Thai Mama curry with rice bowl

The Red Curry I had, besides being spicy, had a nice balance of creaminess that complemented the spice. It came with bamboo shoots, which was a nice touch, peppers, and chicken, served over rice. The coconut milk really stood out in the broth and paired nicely with the mild spiciness.

It was quite good. I actually had it for breakfast the next morning, and it was still good, just cold right out of the refrigerator.

Thai Mama red curry chicken

I would get it a little bit spicier again next time, but it had the right kind of mellowness. I'm a recent curry convert, so I haven't had many, and I don't know how to compare it to others, but I enjoyed it. Not mind-blowingly delicious, but very good.

Thai Mama Atmosphere And Miscellaneous

We got takeout, but, like most every restaurant, it's better if you can get it in the restaurant. That said, it was perfectly fine for takeout, especially if you live in the area.

I don't think we'll make the half-an-hour round trip very often. But if we're in the area for a concert at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre or something, we'd definitely conider stopping and grabbing some food before the concert.

Parking At Thai Mama

Parking was really easy, just in a strip mall parking lot.
