Shack Breakfast & Lunch Takeaway. It's a better version of IHOP, for more money and with a lot more butter. Restaurant quality food for restaurant quality prices.
Fun family breakfast spot in Frontenac with hilarious mugs and crowns for the kids, plus a big pig saying eat some bacon. But they sat us down and promptly forgot about us for 15 minutes. I ordered pancakes and got French toast, but it was light, fluffy and delicious, no complaints there.
It was like 30 bucks for the two of us. I could go to the Olivette Diner and get the same quality for half the price. In my book, it's just not worth the extra cost.

Experience at Shack Breakfast & Lunch
My son and I went to the Shack in Frontenac before school one day. His brother just started the fifth grade center, so we've been going to breakfast once a week, kind of together for fun, all around the area.
I haven't been to the Shack since before I started doing this blog in 2023, so it's been years. I remember it being good, so I figured we'd give it a shot and add it to the list.
We got there at seven o'clock on a weekday. There were two people sitting at the bar and a couple other tables full.
The host sat us down on the left-hand side when you walk in. There was only one waitress on staff, or maybe like one and a half waitresses. She ended up talking to people at the bar and totally forgot about us.
We were waiting about 15 minutes before I actually got up, walked over to the bar and was like, "Hey, can we place an order with you? We have school." She was like, "Oh, I'm sorry. Sure." Then I placed the order with her right there and she put it right in.
My son got a kid's combo, and I ordered eggs, hash browns and bacon with a side of pancakes. But she gave me French toast to match my son's French toast, which was frustrating. I wasn't gonna send it back though, whatever, not a big deal.
But then it turns out the French toast is a few more dollars than the pancakes, and I really wanted to taste the pancakes for the review itself. I would have sent it back if I knew they cost different, particularly because we were already delayed. So those extra dollars kind of got me.
They ended up giving my son a free smoothie because of the wait, which was nice. And we finished with just enough time to go home and get back to school, so there was no harm, no foul.
This was not cheap for the two of us. It was like 30 bucks, which is a lot of money for breakfast. The receipt said $30.01 all in.
So it's safe to say I did not have the best experience, but I have been here before, so I know it can be better. I won't go back. But if the Shack is in your backyard and the Olivette Diner's a 10-minute drive, I could see you going here on occasion for sure, because people like it and it's not bad.
Food at Shack Breakfast & Lunch
I ordered the Do It Yourself Meg Ryan, which is eggs, hash browns and bacon with a side of pancakes. My son got the Breakfast Shackaroo, the kid's combo with French toast and bacon.
But I didn't get my pancake. The French toast I got instead was light and fluffy and delicious, like no complaints there with the French toast.
It was like a better version of IHOP for more money with more butter. The potatoes were incredibly buttery, and I gave my son some of my hash browns. The eggs were incredibly buttery too.
I could go to the Olivette Diner and get, I would say, the same food. It probably tastes different, but it's the same in my opinion on quality for half the price. In my book, it's just not worth the extra cost to the food quality ratio.
Now, they do have more fun things like skillets that you can compare to something at First Watch. I've had those in the past, and they're very good. But the food here isn't bad.
Shack Breakfast & Lunch Atmosphere
It's a really big, kind of fun space. The barnwood outside makes it look like an actual shack. Out front, a big pig sign says "Skinny people are easy to kidnap. Be safe. Eat bacon."
You walk in and there's writing on the walls. A "Welcome to the Fabulous Shack" sign sits at the host stand, and there's a leg lamp in the room too.
Customer signatures cover the booths. The booth backs are chalkboards, and they already had kids' drawings on them when we sat down.
A big wooden divider splits the booths on the left from the bar side.
The mugs are hilarious. One said "Coffee wait for it... poop." They have paper crowns for the kids, and it's a really good family breakfast place to go eat.
The Shack is more of an event place. It feels more fun than going into the Olivette Diner.
It's always packed on the weekends, so get there earlier and be prepared to wait a bit. It's very big and they keep people moving in and out, so the wait does move.

Parking is really easy in the adjacent giant parking lot. You can see how full it is before you even walk in.
