Serendipity Takeaway. Serendipity serves up surprisingly scrumptious ice cream. My wife and I didn't expect to be blown away with some of the best ice cream in St. Louis. Creamy and flavorful it delivered a deserved 8.6 / 10.
The ice cream has a unique, pleasant texture, and the value is excellent. The clever "topping" scoop option, which lets you try another flavor for a small charge, is a great touch. While the service was fast and friendly, the one hang-up was the menu. The ice cream has fun, creative names, but they didn't include descriptions of the ingredients.
But even with that small hiccup, Serendipity is one of the better local ice cream places in St. Louis and I highly recommended it for an after-dinner dessert.
Serendipity Experience Summary
My wife and I visited Serendipity with friends for ice cream after having dinner nearby at Sultan. It's a great spot for an after dinner treat for 30 somethings like us, they close at 9:00 p.m.
The service was super fast and friendly, even with a few people ahead of us in line. We got our ice cream with no problem and found a table to sit and enjoy it.
With a backdrop of some adult drinks and floats, we had what turned out to be some of the best ice cream I've had in the area. I got raspberry chip, which nailed the raspberry, while my wife got her standard mint chocolate.
Overall, I'd give it an 8.6 / 10, one of the highest ratings I've given out, never mind for ice cream.
For two people, our order came to about $10, which felt totally fair for the quality.
The Food At Serendipity
The ice cream at Serendipity was surprisingly delicious and is now up there in my head with the best in St. Louis, rivaling the more well-known Clementine's. I would say Clementine's is still a little creamier, but Serendipity's texture is unique and worth trying.
It's a bit more icy, with a texture that reminds me of kinetic sand in the way it sticks together and then falls apart. I know that sounds weird, but it was a really nice texture and the flavor was fantastic. It's better than Ben & Jerry's by a long shot.
I got a kid's cup with one scoop for about four dollars. The cool thing is that you can add a "topping," which is another, smaller scoop of a different flavor, for only a dollar fifty. My wife was very excited about this, getting mint on the bottom and raspberry chip on top. I had the raspberry chip, and it was delicious, with no complaints at all.
My only real issue was the menu. Many flavors had fun names, like "Mom's Little Helper," but no descriptions of what was in them. I was looking for a coffee flavor and didn't see one, so I settled on the raspberry chip. It turns out "Mom's Little Helper" was espresso chip, but this wasn't listed anywhere.
The same went for other items, like a French toast flavor I sampled. It was quite good, with a maple syrup flavor and a cinnamon aftertaste, but the ingredients weren't listed. This was kind of a pain, as you had to either guess what was in it or ask for a sample of everything.
Serendipity Atmosphere And Miscellaneous
The atmosphere is pretty much what you'd hope for from a local ice cream shop. It's a casual and friendly place with about half a dozen tables for customers to sit and eat.
A unique feature is their small bar that serves liquor and alcoholic floats for adults, making it a cool spot for a grown-up dessert as well. It's definitely a great place to stop for a treat after dinner.
Parking At Serendipity
The shop is located on Manchester Road, and there seemed to be plenty of street and lot parking available in the general area.
