La Patisserie Chouquette - Positively Outstanding Pastries

4.47/5 stars Review Philosophy

Choquette Takeaway. Choquette crafts consistently excellent pastries. I'd give it an 8.2/10 for delivering top-tier baked goods that rival anything you'd find in France, but with that distinctly American abundance.

We stumbled on Choquette after hitting the Tower Grove Farmer's Market, and what started as a quick stop for macarons turned into a full-blown pastry haul that made my entire day. If you're anywhere near the area, it's absolutely worth the detour.

Service was quick (my wife ran in and out), parking is street parking in the neighborhood, and the convenience factor is solid if you're already exploring Rhe Grove.

Choquette Experience Summary

I didn't know anything about Choquette going in.

We were heading home from the Tower Grove Farmer's Market, stopped at Union Loafers to grab some bread, and noticed this bakery right across the street with a bunch of good reviews. My eight-year-old is obsessed with macarons right now, so we figured, why not?

Walking in, you'll notice the sleek, modern vibe. It's not the old-school corner bakery feel you might expect in a St. Louis neighborhood. Instead, it's more like a nicer, more refined version of Starbucks, but with way less seating and way more pastries. Display case after display case of beautifully crafted pastries lined up, making you hungry just waiting in line.

Here's my hot take: you can get better pastries in the US than in France. Seriously. The reason? Choice.

Every little pastry shop in France might have one display case with a solid selection. But here at Choquette, you get an entire cafe full of options. So while the aesthetic feels vaguely European, you're definitely standing in a top-notch American pastry shop with that signature American array of choices.

On this particular trip, my wife ran in, grabbed our order, and we headed out. But even that quick stop was enough to convince me this place is legit. In my ongoing search for the best food in St. Louis, I haven't found many great pastry spots. There's one exception in The Food At Choquette Choquette bourbon bun

Let me start with the apple turnover situation. Light, buttery, impossibly flaky pastry wrapped around apples that were cooked perfectly. Soft but not mushy, sitting in this nice sugary glaze that wasn't overwhelming. Every bite had that satisfying crunch-to-soft ratio you want in a good turnover.

But the real star?

The bourbon pecan bun came covered in vanilla icing. Look, I'm more of a pure cinnamon roll guy normally. Give me a classic cinnamon bun and I'm happy. But this beautiful beast made me rethink my entire position on specialty buns.

Crunchy pecans on the outside, warm and flaky in the middle, and that vanilla icing tying it all together. Every bite was worth savoring.

It quite literally made my day.

Choquette macarons

The macarons, which were the whole reason we stopped in the first place, didn't disappoint either. My son was thrilled. They had a crispy, crunchy outer shell and a soft, pillowy middle. Great flavor throughout, whatever flavors we grabbed, I only got a bite of chocolate.

Exactly what you want from a macaron.

Prices aren't outrageous, but they're definitely not cheap either. You're paying for quality here, and in my opinion, it's worth it.

Choquette Atmosphere And Miscellaneous

Choquette logo

The atmosphere is clean and modern. Sleek setup with seating both inside and outside, though not a ton of it. Mostly inside seating, just enough to sit down with a coffee or espresso and enjoy your pastry without feeling rushed.

You will see baked goods literally everywhere, with a black and pink background. If you're not hungry when you walk in, you will be by the time you order, or you don't have taste buds.

We got everything to go, so I didn't get the full experience of sitting down and soaking in the vibe. But from what I could tell, it's a solid spot if you want to chill out for a bit with your baked goods.

Parking At Choquette

Street parking in the neighborhood. Nothing fancy, but we didn't have any issues finding a spot.
