Yummi Tummi Takeaway Yummi Tummi provides a surprisingly tasty time in Maplewood. On the back of some fantastic ramen, I give it an 8.1/10, even if some of the other dishes don't quite hit the same high notes.

Yummi Tummi isn't the place you take your parents when they're visiting from out of town, but it's absolutely worth a 15-minute drive for some ramen without crowds. One of the better Asian restaurants in my travels around St. Louis.

Service is fast. Parking is a breeze, with its own dedicated lot right outside the building. Based on all the pickup orders, it definitely seems more focused on takeout, but there's plenty of seating if you decide to dine in.

Yummi Tummi Experience Summary

My son had a serious craving for California rolls, so my wife and I decided to take him on a little "double date" to Yummi Tummi. We had heard the food was pretty good, and the reviews on Google Maps and Yelp are fantastic, so we took the drive down to Maplewood to give it a shot.

Now, I had no expectations going in, which was probably a good thing. Yummi Tummi is ensconced in what is quite literally an old, repurposed drive-through fast-food joint. When you walk in, it has that distinct Burger King kind of feel. You can even see the old drive-through window outside, though I'm not sure if it's active.

You order at the counter, and you can see right back into the kitchen, just like at a fast-food place. It's not a formal, sit-down experience. While we were there for about an hour, it seemed like most people were picking up food to go. We saw a bunch of younger kids come in and grab their takeout. It's clear this is a popular spot for that.

We sat inside (though the outside seating looked like it would be great in the summer) and split up our order. My son got his sushi, my wife got a poke bowl, and I went for the ramen. Our food came out fast and our little date was underway.

The results were... a bit of a mixed bag. While my son loved his soup and my ramen was fantastic, my wife's poke bowl was pretty unmemorable. But in the end, two out of three isn't bad.

For me, the high points were high enough to make this a very solid find. It's another quality Asian restaurant in St. Louis. It's not a destination, but for convenience and a quality bowl of ramen, you can't beat it.

The Food At Yummi Tummi

My son was the reason we were here, and he was happy. He got his California roll with a side of miso soup.

The miso soup was great, and he ate it all up.

He ate as much of his California roll as you could expect. I didn't want sushi, so I didn't try it, but my wife had some and said she liked it enough.

She had less luck with her main dish, the poke bowl.

It was loaded up with poke and all the accoutrements you'd expect on top of rice. But, thinking about it several months later, she can't recall anything about the meal. It was just... unmemorable. The only thing she remembered was that our son liked his soup.

I, on the other hand, really enjoyed my Tonkatsu Ramen.

This is a pork-based broth, and it came with some pork belly that was relatively thin but had some nice fatty parts that really complimented the broth. The broth itself was absolutely fantastic. If I had been hungrier, I honestly could have just drank all of it, but I ran out of juice about halfway through.

What really set it apart for me was the pickled ginger on top. Love me some pickled ginger. You don't see that very often in this neck of the woods, and it cut the richness perfectly, along with the standard green onions, corn, and a cracked egg.

Now, was it the best ramen I've ever had? No. It doesn't quite compare to Menya-Rei. But it's still very good. When you do tonkatsu ramen well, it's a very filling, delightful experience.

And I'll say it: my yummy tummy was made... yummy.

Yummi Tummi Atmosphere And Miscellaneous

As I mentioned, the atmosphere is... unique. It's an old fast-food building, and it feels like it. Yummi Tummi yummi tummi building

You walk in, order at the counter, and sit down. They had about a dozen or so tables inside, plus that outside seating area.

Our service was fast and easy. We were one of only two couples in the restaurant itself, so it wasn't a problem. Again, this place seems to thrive on its takeout business, and they were handling that well.

Parking At Yummi Tummi

Parking was about as easy as it gets.

They have a dedicated lot right outside the building. Getting in and out was no problem at all.
