The Takeaway

Wally's

Wally's Takeaway. The whole place is like a pristine castle to road tripping. It's like a QuikTrip that went on steroids for five years.

You walk inside and it's nothing like the small dingy gas station you kind of have in your head. It's got just about anything you'd want for a trip, and everything is fairly priced.

The Sloshes are great and giant for like two bucks. The coffee and the beef jerky were just okay. 7.6 / 10, so I'd say worth a trip just to experience it once.

Experience at Wally's

Wally's is a trip man. You get there and it's a gas station, but it's got like 30 or 40 pumps and a giant building next to it.

You walk inside and you kind of have the idea of a gas station being dingy, with small aisles and maybe just some processed food and beef jerky. Wally's has beef jerky, but it's a wall of beef jerky.

There's slushies, coffee, prepared food, aisles of candy and processed goodies for trips. Then a whole bunch of Wally's merchandise and actually clothing. It's got the whole gambit of everything you could possibly need.

I originally got their house blend coffee and that tasted like water. So I went back up to their bold flavor and that tasted more like coffee.

My wife got a burrito, one of my sons got a hot dog, and the other one got a chicken sandwich. They all really liked it.

Funny thing, I've actually charged my Tesla there a couple times. I went in the back just to charge and didn't realize the front of it was a Wally's.

All in all, really impressed. I've been to Buc-ee's before and this seemed like a nicer version of Buc-ee's. Probably technically the same.

Food at Wally's

Everything is very fairly priced, so I'll start with the drinks because I think the drinks are probably the best deal. It's like two bucks for a slushy, two bucks for a coffee kind of thing.

The bold coffee still wasn't like good coffee, but for $1.79 you can't really complain. I'd say McDonald's is better for the same price for a point of reference.

The slushies were great. They call them Sloshes, and they have like a bajillion different flavors. They're giant for like two bucks, and that's actually a better deal than McDonald's.

Beef jerky was like eight or nine dollars for their custom flavors. I got the Korean barbecue version. Nice big chunks and fresh.

It was okay. I like Pacific Gold better, but it's still fine. It's more fresh tasting, just not as good as some of the other beef jerkies I've had.

You get four servings for $8 versus like one serving for a couple dollars. You're buying four ounces of it, so it's actually a good deal.

My wife's burrito was like seven or eight bucks, but it was giant. She had half of it for food now and half of it for lunch tomorrow kind of thing. So a really good deal there on portion size.

I also noticed the candy was actually fairly priced for the size of it. It's like a dollar cheaper than the grocery store, so you're not even getting ripped off on price there. Just a really, really good deal.

Wally's Atmosphere

It's all super clean and super spacious and super big, so it doesn't feel small and dingy. It's like going into a really well-run food court. Just surprisingly clean for a gas station.

The vibe on the inside is a quick fun slushy place. It's the kind of place where you're bringing your kids after a soccer game or a baseball game to get slushies. There were actually a bunch of kids in soccer uniforms getting slushies when we were there.

The bathrooms are big and clean too, and they have doors on the stalls, which were nice.

It is a little bit out in the middle of nowhere and it's the only Wally's around, so you're gonna have to like go there.

Parking At Wally's

There are 30 or 40 pumps out front, so parking isn't a problem. The Tesla chargers are around the back.
