Dohmo - Delivering SOlid Ice Cream At Premium Prices

3.5/5 stars Review Philosophy

Dohmo Takeaway. Dohomo dishes up decent ice cream, but the price melts the value. Overall, I'd give Dohmo a 5.5/10. The ice cream itself is solid, probably a 7.5/10 on quality alone, but when you're staring down close to a $40 bill for a family of four to get a couple scoops each, it's hard to justify coming back.

It's the kind of place that feels more like a special occasion splurge than your regular ice cream run, and in my opinion, that's just not what ice cream should be. For a random Thursday night craving, you want something that doesn't require cooking the books to afford dessert.

The service is quick, the parking is easy, and the staff handles everything from scooping to topping. But at these prices, convenience doesn't offset the cost.

Dohmo Experience Summary

We wanted ice cream on a random Thursday night with some friends, and Dohmo was the closest shop to us. I didn't know anything about it going in, I didn't do my typical Yelp or Reddir research. I just knew that it was new and three minutes from our house.

Walking into Dohmo, you feel like you're in any new strip mall restaurant. Very straight solid lines, a lot of white, very little character, but super clean.

Honestly, it feels a lot like walking into one of those self-serve frozen yogurt chains that were everywhere a decade ago, except here the staff does all the work for you. They scoop your ice cream, add your toppings, and hand it over with a smile.

We ordered from a kiosk, though I'm pretty sure you could order at the register if you wanted to talk to an actual human, or online before you get there.

The kiosk works fine, but the first thing I noticed? The prices.

Holy expensive.

$9 for one of their specialty concoctions or $4 for a kids scoop, but tack on $3 for the trademark waffle cones. Add a topping and you're suddenly at $8 per kid.

For a family of four, you're easily pushing around $40 after tax and tip. That's the same amount I could spend at Panera and walk out with a full meal for everyone.

Instead, we're getting ice cream.

The waffle cones are cool, I'll give them that. They shape them like little fish that they make fresh in-house, and they taste legitimately good.

The ice cream itself? Actually pretty good. I've heard they source it locally and that their real value-add is the house-made waffle cones and the variety of toppings. But I did not confirm with the owners.

They've got a solid menu of signature ice creams to choose from. Quality-wise, I'd put it at a 7.5/10.

But here's where I land. The prices are pushing past what you'd pay at Clementine's, and that just doesn't make sense to me.

I already think Clementine's is testing the upper limits of what people should pay for ice cream.

At the end of the night, we left satisfied but not exactly rushing to come back. It's not that Dohmo is bad, it's just that for what you're getting, the value proposition doesn't add up.

If this were a $15-20 experience for the whole family, we'd probably come once a month, maybe more. But at $40? It becomes a "maybe once a year if we're feeling fancy" kind of place.

The Food At Dohmo

A single scoop at Dohmo runs you $.55. A double scoop is $7.5. But if you want the full experience, with specialty cones, toppings, and mix-ins, you're looking at $9+. The kids' option starts at $4, which seems reasonable until you factor in that waffle cone ($3) and any additional toppings, bringing the total closer to $8.

Dohmo menu

The waffle cones are made fresh and shaped like adorable little fish. They're crispy, they're warm, and honestly, they taste great. If there's one thing worth the upcharge, it might be these.

Dohmo specialty cones

The ice cream flavors are solid. They've got the classics and some creative specialty combinations. The toppings bar offers plenty of variety. They have candy pieces, fruit, sauces, and all the usual suspects.

Dohmo toppings

Quality-wise, the ice cream holds up. It's creamy, flavorful, and clearly a step above grocery store brands.

But is it four-or-five-pints-of-Ben-&-Jerry's better? That's the question you've got to ask yourself. And for me, the answer is no.

Dohmo Atmosphere And Miscellaneous

The atmosphere at Dohmo is clean. It's got that corporate ice cream shop energy, think Pinkberry or Red Mango from back in the day.

Everything is white, modern, and a little sterile. The seating area is perfectly fine, with tables and chairs arranged in neat rows. It's comfortable enough, just not particularly cozy or charming.

Dohmo indoor seating

It doesn't have that mom-and-pop feel, even though the folks behind the counter might very well be the owners. It just reads as more sanitized and corporate than a neighborhood ice cream joint. That's not necessarily bad, but for me, it lacks a bit of the ice cream parlor vibe you'd get at Clementine's or even Serendipity.

The service was solid. We were the only people there on this random Thursday evening, so we got our order super quick. The staff was friendly, handled the scooping and topping with care, and didn't rush us.

You can also order ahead online and just swing by for pickup, which is a nice convenience factor if you're in a hurry.

Parking At Dohmo

Parking is a non-issue. Dohmo sits in a spacious, brand-new shopping center with plenty of spots. You'll have zero trouble finding a space, even on a busier night.
